Minneapolis – The Minnesota Business Partnership (MBP) today announced that Mayo Clinic will receive the 2018 Minnesota Legacy Award. The award is given each year to a Minnesota company that exemplifies the business community’s commitment to corporate responsibility, community leadership, and philanthropy. Mayo will be honored tonight before more than 1,000 business, civic, and political leaders at the Minnesota Business Partnership’s Annual Dinner at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Mayo’s incoming President and CEO Dr. Gianrico Farrugia will deliver brief remarks at the event.
Founded in 1864, Mayo Clinic’s mission is to inspire hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research. Today, Mayo Clinic has 63,000 employees and last year treated more than 1.3 million patients from all 50 states and 136 countries. In 2017 and 2018, Mayo Clinic was ranked the #1 hospital in the nation and #1 in more specialties than any other hospital by U.S. News & World Report.
“Mayo Clinic is a medical leader on the world stage, but they have never lost sight of their roots and their local community” said Charlie Weaver, Executive Director of the Minnesota Business Partnership. “Throughout its history, Mayo Clinic has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the Rochester community and the state of Minnesota while at the same time delivering the best health care in the world.”
Mayo Clinic gives back to the communities it serves through environmental stewardship efforts, community wellness initiatives, and outreach to reduce health disparities among vulnerable citizens. In 2017, Mayo provided $575 million in care to people in need, including $72 million in charity care, and contributed $11 million in cash and in-kind donations to local communities in 2017.
