Early Childhood Education
Focusing on Outcomes, Targeting ResourcesThe Partnership has been active in the early childhood education debate for several years, including participation in the policy development phase of Minnesota Business for Early Learning (MnBEL). MBP Executive Director Charlie Weaver is a member of the Minnesota Early Learning Foundation (MELF) Board of Directors, along with chief executives from several MBP member companies, including Best Buy; Blue Cross and Blue Shield; Cargill; Liberty Diversified Industries; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Cerisi; Taylor Corporation; and the University of Minnesota.
The Partnership actively supports MELF’s efforts to identify successful early learning strategies through a series of pilot programs. The Partnership believes the best approach to improving early childhood education is to develop a quality rating system based on children’s progress toward school readiness rather than compliance with state mandates. Public resources should then be targeted directly to low-income and at-risk families to help them access successful programs.
